26 June we celebrated Jack and Kara's second birthday! They actually had two parties, the first was at their school and the second was at home.
The party at school was actually just cupcakes after lunch, not really a party. We sang happy birthday to Jack, Kara, and Kazuma (a classmate that shared their birthday). Ainsley joined us from her classroom as well. Below is me, Matt, and Ainsley right after singing happy birthday:
Saturday Ainsley helped me to make a cake which I split in two so that Jack and Kara could each have their own cake. I learned later in the day an important parenting lesson - Ainsley was BESIDE herself because she didn't have a cake too. She felt really left out, even though I did a lot of extra effort in including her in the cake making and got her a gift as well. Rather than a party, we invited just a couple of their friends for cake and snacks at our place. It was short and sweet!
Here are my birthday babies! I couldn't get them to take a good picture because they were eating a big plate of fruit.
All was going well with sharing a chair and the fruit until Jack decided he would push Kara off of the chair to make more room (and more fruit) for himself...
This is Jack's happy birthday song. He doesn't look happy here, but at the end of the song he livened up and smiled :-) (side note: Ainsley did her own hair, can you tell?!)
And here is Kara's happy birthday song...
Then the best part - NEW TOYS!
A little bit about each of them...
Kara can usually be found either playing with Ainsley (below they are coloring together), following Ainsley, watching Ainsley, or talking about an injustice blamed on Ainsley. She plays with Jack when Ainsley is not around, but most of the time playtime with Jack ends in Jack biting or pinching Kara, which upsets her tremendously. Kara is our emotional one. She is either very happy or very upset, rarely does she choose a middle ground. She loves to snuggle and really likes to be carried by mom or dad as much as possible. She has the most pure laugh and belly-deep giggle you have ever heard...and on the flip side has the loudest scream audible by human ears. She loves to eat, loves to sleep, and loves to be silly. She is a gift to us, but we definitely are learning how to handle her extreme emotions! Some nick names we have for Kara: Kara Jean, Kara Jean-bean, Kara June-boon, KK-loo, June-bug, and Foghorn.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Jack. Jack is even-keel most of the time, fairly mellow and loves to play by himself. The only exception to his calm demeanor is when he gets angry at his sisters or a random kid who is not in line with Jack's objectives. He is most often found playing with his cars, dirt, or with a ball of some sort. He likes to be around us or in the same room, but likes to do his own thing. He is also an independent thinker and likes to try to do things on his own and gets really frustrated when he cannot do something without help. He likes to play with Kara and Ainsley if they are playing with cars, dirt, or a ball. Sometimes he dabbles in crayons, but only in passing to find cars, dirt, or a ball. Some nick names we have for Jack: Sweet boy, Jack-Jack, and Jackie.
It has been a great two years filled with joy, sleepless nights, exhaustion, laughter, and fun. Matt and I are sincerely enjoying parenthood of our three little munchkins. As we celebrated the milestone of Jack and Kara turning two, we reflected on how we truly feel lucky to be the parents of Ainsley, Jack, and Kara.

Happy Fathers Day
Happy Father's Day! We enjoyed a wonderful day of being a family and loving Matt :-)
Jack and Kara are one week away from their birthday -- and they seem to be growing up so fast over the past couple of weeks! When we went out to dinner tonight neither one of them used a high chair at the restaurant. We stopped using high chairs at home a long time ago, but at restaurants they couldn't quite reach the table. But now they are big enough and even sat still for the meal. (I exaggerate...they sat still for most of the meal.)
Other than celebrating Father's day, we just had a normal weekend. Pizza/beer/movie on Friday, swimming on Saturday, and lots of silliness.
Friday ritual of pizza/beer/movie is a treat for everyone. For the kids it is the only time we let them eat in front of the tv, and since we limit their tv during the week it is a huge block of movie time they are happy to get. For me and Matt, we don't drink during the week and this cold beer on Friday with pizza and quiet kids is a little slice of heaven :-)
Ainsley is still into stickers and made sticker artwork out of her legs...

Diamond Family Seven
We are enjoying having Luke and Emma with us! Saturday we went to Sentosa to let the kids play on the beach. This is the crew waiting on our taxi bus to take us to Sentosa:
We played in the sand and the water. Everyone had a good time!
Saturday evening the kids enjoyed hanging out around the condo...
On Sunday we headed to East Coast park to ride bicycles.

A Toe, an Uncle, a Cousin, and Fidgets!
This past Monday we experienced our first trip to the emergency room. Ainsley was playing with our teak entry table and pulled a drawer out too far, and the heavy drawer fell straight onto her big toe. OUCH! She was in a lot of pain and after ice and lots and lots of TLC she was still complaining about pain so we took her in to make sure it wasn't broken. Not broken, but really swollen so they had to puncture it a few times to drain some of the blood. She stayed home from school for one day and then back to her normal active self. Even though she is feeling fine, she is using the "my toe hurts" to get out of chosen activities she is not in the mood to do :-)
Uncle Luke and cousin Emma arrived this past week and we were so happy to see them! We have enjoyed our time so far and look forward to some fun adventures while they are here. So far lots of swimming and more swimming. We tried to go to the Singapore Zoo this weekend but rain took us on a detour to Fidgets (indoor playground).

Jack never sat still for a moment...crawling, diving, running, laughing!

Bike Ride
We went to East Coast Park to rent bikes. Good thing they had capacity for us to carry three with us because once Ainsley saw the kid seats there was no convincing her to ride her own bike!
Three Amigos
The Diamond trio have been getting along really well and spending more and more time playing together. Matt and I find ourselves with actual free time when the kids are busy playing...we are still trying to figure out what to do with our newly found free time. Their latest game of mischief is hiding in the closet together.
We decided to get creative in the kitchen. Matt tried homemade salsa, which Jack and Kara were interested in, while Ainsley and I made brownies. Ainsley learned the important lesson of not turning on the beaters when they are out of the bowl...the ceiling and walls were covered in chocolate!
And to top off the weekend, Kara moved to her toddler bed. The prison walls have been removed! Kara is a really hard sleeper, so her transition should be easy. Jack is going to stay in his crib a while longer :-)
Ainsley wanted to pose with Kara in her bed. Ainsley is asking if they can share a bed. We think we will hold off on that for now.

Just Stuff
Kara had a few boo-boo's this week. The first one happened when she was innocently walking in the house and tripped on her feet and fell face first into the desk - that is what you see on the left side of her face. Next, Jack took a huge piece of her face into a tight squeeze when she didn't want to share with him - that is what you see on the other cheek. The injury you can't see involved Ainsley and a pair of scissors. Hopefully this week will be a safer one for Kara!
Ainsley actually went a full week without falling off of her bike again. The bump on her forehead from last week is going away, you can see a bit of what is left in the picture below.
Jack is sporting a look of innocence below, but don't let it fool you. He is full of mischief and spice :-)
